How To Control Black Water Damage

By: Aydan Corkern

Black water damage is the worst type of damage that you can come across. It is the heavily gross and unsanitary water from sewage that can enter a building from the back up of your pipes. This type of water will come from your toilet overflowing, the back up of your sewage pipes, the release pipes from your washer, and your garbage disposal. All of this water is very damaging to your home and your health.

If you have well water, you really need to make sure that your run off is going in a different way, so as not to allow it to become too close to your fresh water supply. This type of water will contaminate your fresh water supply. The black water has to be put into a holding tank or what is called a septic tank. The size of the tank will determine how often you will need to have someone come out to empty this tank. If you don't empty this tank soon enough, you will start to smell some really bad odor, and it can start to run into your yard where your kids might be playing.

If this water should be able to seep back into your water supply, it can cause major damage to you by making your very sick or killing you and your animals out right. If it is allowed to sit on your land for even a short time, it can make your ground unusable for hundreds of years. It will seep into the soil making it useless to be able to grow even grass, and the smell will be so bad that you can't stand to be near your home. If this should happen, which is more likely than most people think, you might as well set the house and grounds on fire. This just might dry it up fast enough so you can bring in a clean up crew that will have a backhoe that will be able to remove the soiled soil and haul it away.

Make sure that this holding tank is checked for any cracks that might happen, as it will need to be fixed if possible or you will be told to build a new one. If possible, you might be able to hook up to the city's sewage lines, which in the long run is safer and cheaper. Having this tank pumped can cost you anywhere from $100 to $300 or how ever often you have to get it pumped.
