A Mother And A Teacher In One

By: Jim Brown

Being a mother is a 24/7 tough job. It is indeed not easy to be a mother especially to those working ones. We really have to wake up early in the morning to prepare things for our schooling kids and working husbands, thus, making us truly busy from dusk "till dawn.

Talking about education, some parents have chosen not to send their children to schools and avail the Preschool Homeschool Program instead. This is a very serious matter since they are involving themselves to the education learning process of their kids being the teachers, themselves for them.

Surely, there is a curriculum that guides these mothers doing it at home and syllabi for the content of their lessons were also prepared. However, mothers who were new to the system were having hard time coping up with it.

How do we really become a good teacher to our children when we didn't master most of their lessons, ourselves? Can we be a good mother and a teacher for them at the same time?

The following are some of the tips we can do to make learning at home more enjoyable to our kids.

1. Coordinate with the State's Preschool Homeschool Curriculum Center

No matter how good we think we are, we seriously need to have a constant coordination and cooperation with the know-it-all people to be reminded of the Do's and Don'ts in this kind of setup.

2. Prepare syllabus for each subject matter you plan to teach your child.

List down the suggested topics you decide to teach your learners. You may even prepare educational materials to be more effective in transferring learning to them.

3. Attend workshops and seminars occasionally.

Other mothers that you will meet in workshops may relay their experiences on doing this homeroom teaching. They may even share their personalized worksheets or physical activities that are useful to the learning process.

4. Prepare your visual materials

Even at school, students learn more easily when educational materials are provided to them. Their natural learning instincts prefer visual types of learning process. This is very evident to the schools officials who conduct classroom observations every now and then. Example, when you want to teach them to solve money problems, you may present the real money stuffs for them to personally experience the actual thing.

5. Integrate the lessons to real life situations

If you are about to teach them how to count, better give them examples like having apples in a basket and tell them to count the apples. In Science, you may show them the sky at night and ask them to look for the famous constellations. Integrate the lessons to our everyday life situations for an effective grasp of learning. This way, they can understand the lesson well.

5. Evaluate the learning outcomes

Not only in school do learners experience having evaluation worksheets or examinations. You may even give them activities that seem to be quizzes. You should check them, of course for better retention and to measure their acquired knowledge as well..

Those were just some of the tips a mother can do to be effective in being a mother and a teacher at a time. Hope you have learned, and got yourselves excited in doing the same thing to your kids!
